What is a shower stall?
A shower partition is a transparent or translucent surface that is installed around a bathtub or shower to prevent water from leaking out and humidifying the rest of the space. Bath curtains are installed by professionals in the field of aluminum carpentry, who usually work in shops selling blinds.
The cost of installing a medium-height shower partition ranges from € 615 to € 2,115, including measurements.
Before choosing a shower cabin
Before choosing a shower cabin, it is necessary to measure the available space. Many companies will send specialists to your home who will do this, although they often charge an additional fee for measurement, which usually amounts to about 15 euros. The size of the bathroom has a big impact on the screen. In small bathrooms, it is better not to install curtains that reach the ceiling, a height of 150 cm is enough. A height of 195 cm is recommended for shower cabins.
As for the type of screen, in homes where there are children, it is better to choose screens made of acrylic panels rather than glass to avoid accidents. Tempered glass and steel screens are also exceptionally durable. In addition, it is important that the mounting screws are always made of stainless steel.
The thickness of the panels also matters. Acrylic panels can have a thickness of 4 to 6 mm, and tempered glass should always be at least 6 mm thick, but not more than 10 mm. It should be borne in mind that colored, decorated or custom-made panels also significantly increase the price. For tempered glass partitions, it is recommended to pay a little more and purchase double-glazed windows with a surface that repels dirt and water droplets.
There are two options for attaching transparent panels to profiles: silicone and rubber bands. Silicone fasteners are the cheapest system, but tend to turn yellow over time. Rubber bands are more expensive, but guarantee a clean appearance for about 10 years. The thickness of the aluminum profile also matters. It is best to choose a minimum of 3 mm; the thicker, the stronger and more reliable. Profiles can be made of lacquered or anodized aluminum, as well as hardened steel. This option is the safest, most reliable and decorative, but also the most expensive. Aluminum in special colors increases the price by 50-100%, and the dimensions by 30-45%.
Types of screens
By configuration
Stationary panels: sheets of glass covering only part of the space. They are recommended for baths that are closed on at least one side.
Folding panels: similar to stationary panels, but have hinges. Ideal for bathtubs installed in niches.
Front screen: wall-to-wall, with sliding or hinged door or doors. For baths built into niches.
Corner shower corner: two panels, one fixed, the other movable, forming the letter L. It is ideal for showers in small bathrooms, especially if they are equipped with rotating hinges, that is, they open both inside and outside the space.
Hinged corner shower cabins: have a fixed narrow glass panel, which is connected with a hinged glass door by means of hinges. They are complemented by another fixed side panel. They are suitable for medium and large rooms.
Curved shower corners: Have a curved panel in the corner to make better use of the space. They are suitable for shower cabins with pallets in the shape of a quarter circle.
According to the opening system
Roll-up: they have flexible panels that "fold" into an aluminum housing. They are ideal for very small rooms, as the roll-up doors "disappear" when opened. This is a good value for money.
Stationary: they consist of a simple sheet of glass attached to the wall using profiles and/or slats, and do not fold.
Sliding doors: the oldest. They consist of a fixed and sliding sash, which moves along the guides. Currently, there are very aesthetic and stable load-bearing systems, especially in stainless steel screens. These screens need space to move the sliding sash, and those made of aluminum and acrylic panels are somewhat fragile. They are the most economical.
Folding: The glass panels open outwards or inwards with hinges. Doors that open in both directions are called revolving doors; they are best suited for small spaces.
Prices
It is very difficult to specify prices for screens, since they depend on many variables: size, material and thickness of panels, aluminum or stainless profiles, type of production, opening system, design, brand, etc..
The cheapest screens cost from €75 to €500, but they are also the most substandard. It is best to choose a medium or high-end model, the price of which ranges from 500 to 2,000 euros, although it can reach up to 3,000 euros, since they are more reliable, attractive and stable.
In general, we can specify the following prices for standard mid-range screens:
Bathroom screens:
roller shutters from 140 €
in the glass corner from 350 €.
in the acrylic corner from 250 €.
bent glass from €600
bent acrylic from €400
fixed acrylic side panels from 100 €
fixed glass side panels from 150 €
acrylic facades from € 250
glass facades from 425 €
Shower enclosures:

fixed glass sidewalls from € 210
acrylic facades from 300 €
glass facades from 500 €
The price of installing the screen depends on the size of the screen, its complexity and the distance that specialists will have to travel. The labor costs range from 50 to 200 euros, and the preliminary measurement is about 15 euros.
What else needs to be considered?
Licenses. You do not need to obtain licenses or permits to install a shower curtain.
Tempered glass. In order for the glass to be considered tempered, if it breaks, the maximum size of each fragment must be less than five times the thickness of the glass.
