Humidification of air in woodworking

Humidification of air by mist in the woodworking industry

In wood processing workshops, as well as various wood products, it is required to maintain the relative humidity of the tree in the range of 50-55%, depending on the manufacturing process.

In order to avoid such negative factors as reducing the volume of wood blanks as a result of drying and their further deformation, cracking and warping, it is required to install a humidification system in the premises. In particular, it concerns the drying chambers of wood, where the operation of the humidification system is necessary for the organization of exposure to wood with high humidity air during the specialized stages of drying – heat treatment and conditioning.

In cable factories and factories for the production of wood slabs, due to the lack of waterlogging, problems with defective products arise. Dry wood absorbs adhesives and paint coatings too quickly. This leads to the loss of quality of products.

Owners of woodworking enterprises face many problems associated with insufficient humidification of premises:

1.      Drying of wood. Relative humidity affects the change in the volume dimensions of wood, which is a very hygroscopic material.At the same time, changes occur disproportionately in different directions, which will cause cracking, delamination and deformation of the array.

2.      Poor adhesion of adhesive compositions. Over-dried wood absorbs dissolving substances from the glue before it has time to dry. The seams turn out to be fragile, the finished product has to be written off as defective. The reason is simple – when using adhesive compositions, it is required to strictly comply with the requirements for the moisture content of the glued tiles, which should not differ by more than 1.5%.

3.      Violation of the integrity of the paintwork. Dry wood absorbs dissolving substances faster than the varnish has time to dry. The coating eventually turns out to be uneven, loses its aesthetic glossy appearance.

4.      Changing the geometric dimensions of finished wood productsthe problems listed above, as well as incorrect climatic storage conditions, cause deformation of already finished products. They change geometrically in size, shape and become unusable.

5.      Deterioration of employees' well-being. Due to increased dust formation, dryness appears, eyes turn red, mucous membranes become inflamed. This is especially noticeable in productions with an air aspiration system that additionally dries the air in the room.

The installation of a fog system at woodworking enterprises solves the following tasks:

·       Reduction of defective products. Blanks and products retain their proportional appearance and size;

·       There would be a faster processing of materials. Wood becomes more docile in processing;

·       Dust suppression.Reducing dustiness reduces the amount of rejection in furniture shops due to the fogging of laminated chipboard and MDF boards, as well as reduces the fire hazard and improves the well-being of the staff.

·       The adhesion of wood blanks is improved. The applied paintwork is more even and smooth, and the glued parts, veneer or laminate are held more firmly during the entire service life.

·       Cooling of production sites. Reducing the air temperature in production rooms by 5-12 ° C, due to the effect of evaporation, works as a natural cooling system.

·       Increasing profitability. Increase of income due to optimization of production processes. Reduction of maintenance costs and maintenance of general order and cleanliness.

In order to prevent the wetting of wood and finished products, the use of a high-pressure misting system is recommended in the wood industry. It consists of the following components:

  • A pump capable of delivering from 25 to 75 bar (high pressure pump);
  • High pressure hose system (100 bar);
  • Fine-dispersed nozzles (from 0.15 to 1);
  • Fittings;
  • Water filters on the supply water supply;
  • A fan that dispels fog (if necessary);
  • The control unit of the fog generation system;
  • High pressure ball valves;
  • Drainage valve – prevents stagnation of water;
  • Fastening clamps, etc. accessories according to the project.

The system of cooling and microclimate management at a woodworking enterprise is an excellent opportunity to increase productivity and profit. With the seasoning installation of the misting system, it is possible to achieve not only the possibility of regulating the temperature and humidity of the air, but also to successfully combat dusty waste and odors of technological processes.

High-pressure nozzle humidifiers effectively solve one of the most important tasks in woodworking. With minimal installation and operation costs, such systems maintain an equilibrium moisture content in wood fibers at a predetermined level throughout the year.

The fog system is easy to install and does not require complex maintenance. This will allow you to design and install it without stopping technological processes and production downtime.
